In this post we’re going to begin taking steps right here and right now to improve every aspect of our life.  I have to emphasize that the keywords are here and now. In my last few posts I discussed how, at times, we just seem to be going through the motions of life by robotically performing our daily task and functions.  It’s as if we’re functioning with a sense of impending doom hanging over our head. This post is going to change all of that!

Previously I have provided exercises on how to become more mindful of the present moment.  I have also discussed how it is impossible for us to accomplish anything in the past or in the future since the only time ever available to us is now.  It is in the midst of here and now that we will find our most powerful and productive self. Are you ready? Let’s get started!

In an earlier post entitled “Activate Your Awareness”, I provided an exercise, which allowed us to see our own thoughts in our mind. The purpose of this exercise was to help us recognize that:

  1. Our true/real self is separate from our thoughts.
  2. If we can become aware of our thoughts then we don’t have to be controlled by them.

We all know that thoughts lead to feelings  (or emotions) and often times these emotions lead to actions that we may or may not regret in the future. However, if we are aware that certain emotions will lead us to perform certain actions then we can prevent these actions by recognizing the thoughts that lead to them.

It is only in the present moment or “in the now” that we can become aware of our thoughts.  It is in the stillness of this present moment that we have access to all of the tools necessary to change our lives for the good. One of the tools that I like to use to direct me towards right action is my GPS  (Goal-Purposing-System). This GPS will always direct me towards my goals and ultimate life purpose. It will never tire of providing directions, nor get angry if I do not follow its directions precisely.

This GPS can only be accessed “in the now” and in order to hear it you must turn down your radio (i.e., all of that senseless chatter that’s going on in your mind) and focus your attention on it. This tool will provide accurate directions whether we are experiencing tough times or having the best times of our life. The only thing that we need provide this GPS is our destination or goal.

To be successful in life requires that we have a set of value-based goals, which benefit not only ourselves, but also everyone involved. Creating these vales and goals will be the subject of another post.

I know that I’ve discussed a lot in this post and if you don’t take any other thoughts away from this correspondence, remember that we all have access to a GPS that’s available to us 24/7 and really, really wants to help.

Until next time here’s hoping that you live today and every day passionately and with purpose. Thank you and God bless.
